Abraxas. An ancient sequence of Greek letters of unknown significance found on charms, especially amulets, of the late Greco-Roman world, linked with both Gnostic beliefs and magical practices by the early church fathers. Etymology from Greek words abráxas, abrásax, abrasáx, all of obscure origin. The numerical value of the Greek letters in Abraxas which add to 365 coincides with and so statistically represents, the average number of days in a calendar year - the length of time for the Earth to make one complete revolution around the sun. What is most strikingly meaningful about these coincidences, which are presently called synchronicities, is that they likely contributed to a supernatural belief in Abraxas, a familiarity felt by and for this Godly figure whose legendary would remain important as a signifier in Gnosticism, Numerology, and Christian culture. More synchronicities to come.
